Dr. Roger Lederer is an ornithologist and Emeritus Professor of Biological Sciences at California State University, Chico, whose academic and research interests are ecology, environmental science, science education and ornithology. He served as Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences, Dean of the College of Natural Sciences, Director of the Bidwell Environmental Institute, Director of the Eagle Lake Field Station, Manager of the 4000 acre Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve in northern California, and served as Endowed Professor of Environmental Literacy. He has published over twenty scientific research papers, a textbook entitled Ecology and Field Biology, and eight bird books books entitled Amazing Birds, Birds of New England, Pacific Coast Bird Finder, Bird Finder, Birds of Bidwell Park, Latin for Birdwatchers, Beaks, Bones, and Birdsongs, and The Art of Birds. Dr. Lederer has taught ornithology and ecology, worked with environmental organizations and schools on research and education projects, has traveled to over 100 countries, given many public presentations, and knows what birds you will find anywhere in the world. He often travels as a naturalist on cruise lines around the world and owns and maintains the popular website Ornithology: the Science of Birds
